Dr. Felecia Commodore


Felecia Commodore is an Associate Professor of Higher Education in the College of Education at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  Felecia's research focus areas are leadership, governance, and administrative practices, with a particular emphasis on HBCUs. Felecia’s research explores organizational behavior and theory, governance practices, organizational culture, board governance and practice, the exercise, construction, and perception of leadership in various communities, and the relationship between Black women and leadership.

Felecia’s research expertise lies in the areas of organizational behavior, organizational decision-making, and organizational culture, as well as how these three areas impact achieving equity. She has served as a consultant to institutional governing boards, faculty senates, system-level governing boards, foundation boards, and presidents, helping to strengthen shared governance practices and ensure the high-functioning and effective operation of higher education institutions. Her work and expertise have been featured in prominent venues, including The Washington Post, The Conversation, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Trusteeship, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Felecia is the lead author of Black Women College Students: A Guide to Success in Higher Education and co-author of the forthcoming book, Power, Persuasion, and Politics in Higher Education.

She earned a B.S. in Marketing with a minor in Sociology from Drexel University, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her PhD in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.
