Kevin Lamár Peterman is a transformative leader in higher education, ministry, and community development, dedicated to advancing equity, cultivating leadership, and empowering communities.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Howard University, a Master of Science in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Peterman has shaped strategy and innovation at some of the nation’s leading institutions and organizations. He has served as Chief of Staff for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and the Next Step Adult Public Charter School Network, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Howard University School of Divinity, and Executive Leadership & Search Consultant at Isaacson, Miller. Through this work, he advances educational equity, leadership development, and institutional excellence, while holding fellowships with the NAACP Washington Bureau, the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions, and DC Public Schools.

He currently serves as Senior Pastor of Nineteenth Street Baptist Church—the oldest African American Baptist congregation in the nation’s capital—where he leads with vision, conviction, and a deep commitment to ministry, advocacy, and social justice. He previously served as Associate Pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church (Washington, DC), Young Adult & Social Justice Pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church (Brooklyn, NY), and pastoral intern at Trinity United Church of Christ (Chicago, IL).

In 2024, he was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers and Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College, one of the highest honors for African American clergy.

A sought-after voice on leadership, equity, and justice, Peterman has been featured on CNN and NPR, serves on the board of Ezra Youth Seminary, and co-founded the Ethical Leadership & Racial Justice Initiative. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Prince Hall Masonic Order, he is recognized as one of the nation’s foremost millennial voices shaping faith, education, and social impact today.
